The Italian Job

August is the month when Europe is on holiday, the month when all tourists head towards the big European cities and the population of this cities escape to the coast. So this year for first time I was the tourist going back to Italy which absolutely captivated me the previous two times I visited. Heading first to Sofia via Minneapolis and then London I had my first emergency landing. The plane over the Atlantic I took made an emergency landing because it didn't have enough fuel to reach London. I sure was happy they didn't find that out over the Ocean. So we had to land in Ireland on a tiny airport called Shannon. We had to wait two hours for refueling and change of oil from the only mechanic on this airport. All this meant that I didn't get my flight to Sofia and I ended up with a night in London.

24 hours later I was on another flight to Rome and than to Venice with my mum. This is our 3rd trip only the two of us, Paris and Rome the previous years. Arriving in Venice was magic. We flew over the city on a sunset and took a boat to get to our hotel. The smell of the sea and the beauty of this fascinating city were a fantastic beginning of the trip. Our hotel was 200 m from San Marko square. We walked from early morning till late afternoon. The mornings were quiet, with gentle pink light on the beautiful buildings and the port with the gondolas. It doesn't matter in which city in the world I go I always try to be awake for the first raws of light.

The Gondolas. so many times I listened about this romantic experience. I found one gondola which I liked the most and it was mainly because of the face of the gondolier who allowed me every day I passed by the usual place he used to stop to photograph him. I will remember this as my gondola experience not the huge amounts of tourists waiting on line ups to get to one, or the traffic jams of gondolas in the tiny channels
From Venice we took a train an traveled to Florence, where we had as much fun and took tons of photos. All I know is that Italy is a great experience every time. Next holiday I am aiming for the Amalfi coast, Positano and Tuscany.
Back in Sofia it was time for lots of friends and family, great sunshine and wonderful parties.
